Facing the square, your right is the right side of the board — your opponent’s left. Red is the cut you’re throwing. Yellow is the next cut. Z and X are the Zwerchhau, and they use the same colors.
How to read the square
- 1 descends from your right. 2 descends from your left.
- 3 rises from your right. 4 rises from your left.
- 5 is horizontal from your right. 6 is horizontal from your left. Odd numbers come from your right, even numbers from your left.
- 7 is straight down the Scheitel line. 8 is straight up it.
- Z and X are the Zwerchhau, above the square: short edge, from your right to their left ear, and from your left to their right ear. They use the same colors as the other cuts.
- Red is the current cut. Yellow is the next one, so you can see the transition. On a shared line the yellow cut sits beside the red one.
- A half cut stops in the Ort. A through cut runs the whole line. A half Zwerchhau stops at the ear.
- Window is how long the lamp stays lit, in milliseconds. Recover is the dark gap before the next strike.
1–8 add that cut. Z and X add the Zwerchhau. Space plays. Arrows step. Esc stops.
